Advancing national palm oil agenda through BUMN go global initiative
The BUMN Go Global program is a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Indonesian state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and supporting the implementation of economic diplomacy. In addressing post-pandemic economic recovery and negative campaigns against Indonesian palm oil, the involvement of agricultural SOEs represents a strategic priority. This paper analyzes the opportunities and challenges associated with including agricultural SOEs in the BUMN Go Global program and formulates policy recommendations to optimize their contribution to Indonesia’s economic diplomacy. The analysis highlights the need to address existing debt problems through corporate debt restructuring to ensure sufficient financial capacity before these enterprises participate in the program. In parallel, comprehensive sustainability certification should be pursued to strengthen corporate sustainability profiles, improve product competitiveness, and create opportunities to obtain premium prices in export markets. Synergy between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, supported by improved financial conditions and strengthened sustainability standards, is expected to enhance the role of agricultural SOEs in expanding international markets and advancing Indonesia’s national economic interests.
