Improving protection for pregnant Indonesian Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong
Unplanned pregnancies among Indonesian migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong present significant challenges to the protection of both mothers and their children. Although the Indonesian and Hong Kong governments, along with NGOs such as Pathfinders, provide assistance, existing mechanisms remain limited in addressing reproductive health and the consequences of pregnancy among migrant workers. This paper examines current protection measures and explores opportunities to improve Indonesia’s response. It recommends integrating reproductive health education into outreach programs, engaging employment agencies in reporting pregnancy cases, extending assistance to undocumented migrants, and establishing bilateral cooperation with Hong Kong to facilitate the return of Indonesian children.
