Bamboo Diplomacy: "How to Win the Heart of Melanesians in New Caledonia"

This study examines the use of bamboo as a soft power diplomacy instrument to strengthen Indonesia’s relations with the Kanak community in New Caledonia. Amid political tensions and the region’s strategic importance in the Pacific, Indonesia can promote cultural diplomacy through capacity building, cultural arts, diaspora engagement, and cooperation with sister cities. Introducing bamboo’s versatility and cultural value offers an opportunity to foster mutual understanding, strengthen bilateral relations, and enhance Indonesia’s diplomatic presence in the Pacific.
