The Survival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Its Repercussion on Indonesia's Foreign Policy
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) plays an important role in regulating Iran’s nuclear program and maintaining economic relations between Indonesia and Iran. The United States’ withdrawal from the agreement in 2018 and the reimposition of sanctions have created challenges for trade, investment, and tourism. Although negotiations to revive the JCPOA have taken place, uncertainties remain regarding its implementation. This paper examines possible scenarios for the JCPOA’s revival and highlights the importance of Indonesia developing flexible policy options, maintaining diplomatic relations with key stakeholders, and strengthening engagement with relevant countries and international organizations to protect its national interests.
