Protecting Data Privacy of Indonesian Citizens Abroad: a Case Study on the Relevance of Data Governance in Diplomacy
Data privacy protection has become an increasingly important issue in the digital era, particularly in managing the personal data of Indonesian citizens abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) faces challenges due to the absence of a comprehensive national data privacy framework. To address these challenges, MoFA has established protective mechanisms and adopted Regulation No. 1/2020 on Governance of Diplomatic Data. This paper highlights the importance of data governance in ensuring the proper management and protection of personal data throughout its lifecycle. It recommends strengthening institutional capacity, establishing measurable objectives for data collection and use, and developing a clear implementation roadmap to improve data privacy protection within MoFA.
