Scale up the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in promoting creative economy
This paper examines scaling up the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in promoting the creative economy as a catalyst for national economic growth. The creative economy sector contributed IDR 1.105 trillion to Indonesia's GDP in 2018, with USD 20.5 billion in export value, employed 17 million workers, and supported SDGs implementation. Creative economy is one of the priority sectors in Minister Retno Marsudi's five foreign policy priorities for economic recovery, and President Joko Widodo in the 2020 Raker Keppri instructed Ambassadors to strengthen economic diplomacy with result-based targets. The paper presents policy recommendations to strengthen the economic posture within the Ministry and support economic growth through focusing on cross-cutting sectors in economic diplomacy, particularly the creative economy sector.
