The role of Indonesian aid as development diplomacy to strengthen Indonesia’s soft power
This paper examines the role of Indonesian aid as development diplomacy to strengthen Indonesia's soft power, focusing on the Lembaga Dana Kerja Sama Pembangunan Internasional (LDKPI) established in 2019 as Indonesia's first international development agency. The paper addresses two research questions: (1) how can Indonesian aid maximize Indonesia's soft power; and (2) what can Indonesian aid learn from other countries' development agencies. Indonesian aid will open new international stages for Indonesia to strengthen and contribute to global development, while also opening more opportunities to reduce poverty and social inequalities between developed and developing countries. However, several challenges remain that can be addressed through developing Indonesia's donor grand strategy, revising the structure of Indonesian aid, and investing in programs to enhance people-to-people contact.
