Enhancing domestic Public's Engagement of the Directorate of Public Diplomacy, MOFA
Globalization has increased the importance of public participation in international relations and diplomacy. Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) established a Directorate of Public Diplomacy in 2004 to engage domestic and international audiences. However, limited budgets, shifting priorities, and insufficient engagement with the domestic public have reduced the effectiveness of its programs. This paper emphasizes the need for an integrated communication strategy that combines social media with sustained interpersonal relationships to strengthen public trust and support for foreign policy. It also recommends improving public engagement to enhance Indonesia’s international image and incorporate public perspectives into future foreign policy decision-making.
