Elevating global diplomatic outreach: Revamping the digitalization of public diplomacy through social media for the Indonesian mission abroad in Africa
Africa’s growing working-age population and increasing adoption of digital technologies provide opportunities for strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic outreach through social media. The document discusses the use of social media by Indonesian Missions in Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique, focusing on their official accounts and the role of digital public diplomacy in engaging the public, disseminating Indonesian foreign policy, and promoting the country’s image. It highlights strategies including rebranding, developing targeted social media content, improving digital infrastructure, strengthening staff capacity in digital communication and social media management, and providing incentives for diplomatic personnel. These efforts are intended to enhance Indonesia’s diplomatic visibility, support the dissemination of foreign policy, strengthen relations with African countries, and promote Indonesian national interests through digital public diplomacy.
