Establishment of the Indonesian diplomacy museum
Since its establishment 78 years ago, just two days after Indonesia's proclamation of independence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has played a significant role in the nation's history through diplomacy, from securing international recognition of Indonesia's sovereignty in its early years to successfully hosting the Asia-Africa Conference (KAA) in Bandung in 1955. More recently, Indonesia has achieved further international milestones, including the G20 Presidency in 2022 and the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023. In light of these achievements, this paper argues for the need to monumentalize Indonesia's diplomatic endeavors by establishing a museum that would serve as both a historical resource and a medium of communication for domestic and foreign audiences, in line with the concept of "intermestic" public diplomacy. The paper recommends that MoFA establish the Diplomacy Museum of Indonesia as a timely and relevant initiative to document Indonesian diplomacy history, provide a credible reference, and serve as a foundation for shaping the nation's future foreign policy toward Golden Indonesia 2045.
