Optimizing the role of Indonesia representatives in the ASEAN Committee in Third Countries and International Organisations (ACTCs)
This paper examines the optimization of Indonesia's representatives' role in the ASEAN Committee in Third Countries and International Organizations (ACTCs) as a strategy to strengthen Indonesia's leadership and influence within ASEAN following its 2023 chairmanship. As a founding member, Indonesia leverages ASEAN to enhance political-security, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation, fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia. However, ACTCs remain a significant yet underutilized avenue for advancing Indonesia's priorities. The study proposes several strategic measures: (1) strengthening and improving coordination between Indonesian representatives in ACTCs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, (2) enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of relevant units handling ASEAN issues within the Ministry, and (3) providing adequate budgetary support. Through active engagement in ACTCs, Indonesia can showcase its achievements, priorities, and initiatives, enhancing its visibility and influence on the international stage, particularly in relations with ASEAN external partners. Cultural diplomacy, trade promotion, and participation in international forums can significantly boost Indonesia's soft power and reputation, ensuring continuity and sustainability of Indonesia's initiatives post-2023 chairmanship and strengthening its ability to address regional and global challenges.
