Indonesia’s strategy in optimizing economic and technical Cooperation Funds under ASEAN+1 FTA’s
The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MOFA RI) in ASEAN’s economic pillar is examined through its involvement in Economic and Technical Cooperation (ECOTECH) under ASEAN+1 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Indonesia’s participation in ECOTECH cooperation faces several challenges, including limited awareness of available funds, difficulties in securing participation from other ASEAN member states, a preference for bilateral cooperation, limited human resources, and administrative constraints. Strengthening MOFA RI’s leadership in ECOTECH can provide opportunities to improve coordination, capacity building, and the development of regional economic cooperation projects. Proposed measures include developing a comprehensive project proposal handbook, disseminating information on available funding, assisting ministries in preparing proposals, and documenting successful ECOTECH projects. These efforts are intended to strengthen Indonesia’s engagement in ASEAN economic cooperation and demonstrate the benefits of regional integration.
