Challenges in providing education access case study: Indonesian Migrant Worker children in Tawau Sabah
The education and protection of Indonesian migrant workers’ children in Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia, are addressed through the establishment of Community Learning Centers (CLCs) and the provision of Indonesian teachers. These initiatives involve cooperation among the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Tawau, the Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education, and the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia. The document highlights the vulnerabilities experienced by children of Indonesian migrant workers, particularly those living in oil palm plantation areas, and emphasizes the fulfillment of their rights regardless of their parents’ marital or immigration status. It also presents policy options to expand educational access and strengthen child protection, including the implementation of second-track diplomacy.
