Improving Indonesia's tourism through Thailand's lens: A post pandemic strategy guide
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced international tourist arrivals to Indonesia in 2020, prompting the government to implement strategies that gradually increased tourism activity after 2022. Despite this recovery, Indonesia continues to face challenges in developing innovative and inclusive tourism products. This study examines Thailand’s post-pandemic tourism strategies as a reference for strengthening Indonesia’s tourism recovery, particularly through improved access to cultural and natural attractions, safe and hygienic tourism services, social media promotion, halal certification, and tourism-oriented development in urban areas. It also highlights the role of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting tourism promotion, investment, and cultural diplomacy through stakeholder collaboration and capacity building. The study provides strategic recommendations to support sustainable tourism recovery, increase international tourist arrivals, and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global tourism destination.
