The future of Indonesia – Africa energy partnership: Beyond oil and gas
Indonesia can strengthen its energy security and economic diplomacy by expanding strategic engagement with Africa’s energy sector beyond oil and gas. Although Indonesia has substantial energy expertise, its presence in Sub-Saharan Africa remains limited and fragmented. Strengthening partnerships with key African countries, particularly through the Tanzania model, can create opportunities for broader energy cooperation, including renewable energy. Proposed measures include establishing an Indonesia-Africa Energy Task Force and Energy Dialogue, expanding bilateral partnerships, and developing energy research and training institutions. These initiatives can support long-term energy cooperation, strengthen Indonesia’s economic diplomacy, and contribute to Africa’s energy development.
