Advancing Indonesia’s value-added policy in critical minerals amid global energy transition
critical minerals policy plays a strategic role in advancing value-added industries and strengthening its position in the global clean energy transition. As global demand for electric vehicle batteries and critical minerals increases, Indonesia can leverage its reserves of nickel, tin, bauxite, and copper through downstream processing. While this policy has supported industrial development, employment, and national income, it has also faced international challenges, including trade disputes and external policy pressures. This study proposes strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic approach through multilateral platforms and strategic alliances with like-minded countries to support the sustainable development of its critical minerals industry.
