Strengthening the role of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in combating online scams in Southeast Asia
This study examines Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) response to the growing threat of online scams and human trafficking in Southeast Asia. The study identifies fragmented internal coordination and limited regional enforcement mechanisms as key challenges in addressing transnational scam networks. It recommends establishing a dedicated internal working group within MoFA to strengthen coordination among relevant directorates and improve protection, prevention, and victim repatriation efforts. Enhanced internal coordination and regional cooperation are expected to support faster and more integrated responses to transnational online scam threats.
