Challenge in protecting legal Indonesian migrant workers overseas (case study: Indonesian Migrant Workers in South Korea under the government-to-government employment permit system)
Protecting Indonesian migrant workers in South Korea remains challenging despite the Government-to-Government Employment Permit System (EPS), as restrictions on employer changes and limited access to information can contribute to irregular status and vulnerability. Strengthening pre-departure education, worker monitoring, legal counselling, and access to lawful job transfers can improve workers’ ability to maintain legal employment and access protection. Greater inter-agency coordination and a review of the EPS framework are also needed to address gaps in worker protection. These measures can strengthen the legal employment pathway and safeguard the rights and welfare of Indonesian migrant workers in South Korea.
