Indonesia peace initiative for Africa: A quick win for stronger relations with Africa
Indonesia’s engagement with Africa remains limited despite the historical legacy of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference. Indonesia can strengthen its relations with Africa by leveraging its comparative strengths in peacebuilding, defense, and humanitarian assistance, while maintaining economic diplomacy. The proposed Indonesia Peace Initiative for Africa is a 25-year framework built on five pillars: political engagement, defense and security cooperation, humanitarian aid, defense product supply, and innovative financing. Initial actions should prioritize peace and humanitarian cooperation to create tangible early impacts, while broader economic and institutional cooperation can support sustainable long-term relations with African countries.
