Intensifying the role of students diaspora to strengthen Indonesia's diplomacy

Indonesian student diaspora can strengthen the country’s diplomacy by serving as future leaders, cultural ambassadors, and long-term partners abroad. Despite their potential, formal mechanisms for engaging overseas students remain limited, with barriers including weak government support and unclear reintegration pathways. Strengthening engagement through a Student Engagement Hub led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by Indonesian diplomatic missions can facilitate communication, collaboration, and participation in diplomatic activities. This approach can build stronger ties with Indonesian students abroad and enhance their contribution to Indonesia’s diplomacy and national interests.
