Enhancing diplomacy, advancing accession: How the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shapes Indonesia’s OECD accession journey
This study examines the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting Indonesia’s Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) accession process. This involves engagement with 26 OECD committees and alignment with over 240 legal instruments. As vice-chair of the National Team, the Ministry faces challenges such as limited institutional arrangements, coordination gaps and resource constraints that could hinder the process. The study therefore proposes the establishment of an OECD Accession Coordination Framework via a ministerial decree. This framework would comprise an internal accession roadmap, a dedicated task force and a monitoring and knowledge platform. It is expected that this framework will strengthen the management of the accession process and the Ministry’s credibility in supporting Indonesia’s goal of achieving OECD membership.
