Indonesia's Non-Permanent UN Security Council Membership: concrete or symbolic?
The purpose of the paper is to assess Indonesia's role during its non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), focusing on term 2019-2020, and to determine whether its contributions were concrete or merely symbolic. The analysis evaluates Indonesia’s foreign policy strategy, the challenges it faced, and its achievements, while offering recommendations for future engagement in the UNSC. A central, pivotal question guiding this inquiry is whether Indonesia’s participation in the UNSC has led to substantial outcomes that align with its global and regional ambitions or if it remains largely a symbolic exercise of diplomacy.
