Journey to the west. Volume III
Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Attributed to Wu Cheng’en, the novel narrates the legendary pilgrimage of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang to India in search of sacred scriptures. Accompanied by the rebellious Monkey King Sun Wukong, as well as Pigsy and Sandy, the journey is filled with encounters with demons, gods, and moral trials. This English translation by W. J. F. Jenner presents the novel’s rich blend of mythology, religion, fantasy, and satire, making a foundational work of Chinese culture accessible to international readers.
