Region, religion, caste, gender, and culture in contemporary India
This volume focuses on minority discourse (be it based on region, religion, caste, gender or culture) in contemporary India; and its interaction with the state and society at large. Centrally concerned with the refractions of class rather than class per se, the basic themes have been selected to show how different identifiers of social groups combine, overlap and interpenetrate in politics. At the same time yielding specific insights into the weaknesses of the state structures and the opportunities available to challenge them effectively in the interest of the deprived and oppressed segments of the population.
