Song Shi
Song Shi (History of the Song Dynasty) is one of the official dynastic histories included in the Twenty-Four Histories of China. Compiled under the supervision of Toqto’a during the Yuan dynasty, the text documents the political, cultural, military, economic, and social development of the Song dynasty (960–1279), both Northern and Southern periods. The work consists of imperial annals, monographs, and biographies, providing detailed accounts of governmental institutions, major historical events, notable figures, and the empire’s relations with neighboring states such as Liao, Western Xia, and Jin. As a primary historical source, Song Shi is essential for the study of medieval Chinese governance, Confucian bureaucracy, and the transformation of Chinese society during one of its most influential dynasties.
